Being
nervous, anxious or afraid of the dentist is
fairly common, so there's nothing odd about
you at all! However, by far the
majority of people that would describe
themselves as afraid of the dentist can
be helped with a very simple technique
called dental sedation.
Dental Sedation literally helps you to
drift away and relax throughout your
treatment, allowing you to have the
treatments you need. |

At the practice in Watford, Hertfordshire we
use 2 types of sedation - Oral Dental Sedation
and Intravenous or IV Sedation.
The chances are that some of your friends are
also anxious of the dentist, please take a moment

following button. Thank you.
Oral Sedation
This is a tablet
that will help you to relax, it will often make you
feel 'out of it' and in some cases can result in a
complete lack of remembering anything that happened
at the dentist.
This is a great
way to overcome your dental fear and is a safe and
reliable technique for sedation at the dentist.
Oral sedation is
administered by us at the practice and is as simple
as taking a tablet.
Intravenous or IV
Dental Sedation
This incurs a
state of deep relaxation and is often referred to as
'Twilight Sedation'
During IV sedation
you will remain awake, however from the time the
drug kicks in time will seem to pass very quickly,
so much so that afterwards you may feel as though
you have been asleep as you probably won't remember
anything at all.
IV sedation will
be administered by a local anaesthetist who will
look after you while we carry out your dental
procedures.
What about a fear
of needles?
You will still
need to have local pain killing injections if your
treatment dictates, however we will make sure that
we don't do this until after the sedation has kicked
in... we promise that by this time you won't care!
What treatments
can dental sedation be used for?
Great question!
Sedation can help with many treatments such as:
- Stabilising
dentures with implants
- Treating broken down teeth and
restoring
them with crowns
- Replacing
missing teeth with dental implants
- Redesigning your smile with
dental veneers
Plus a whole host of other treatments.
